classes
Drawing and Imagination Monday 10am-12.30pm.
A lively and friendly class for anyone who wants to draw. Introducing our new tutor Tony Grehan.
I am young, but just in my mind. My grandchildren would agree. Deep into the last Millenium, I went to the Slade School and studied sculpture. I have worked at Exeter College for a good while, teaching on every course there in one capacity or another. . I learned that most of us have the same problems when it comes to observational drawing, that some of these problems are rooted in the mechanics of how we see, and the mechanics of how we see are complicated and fascinating. I am quite good with the 'technical' side of drawing, the teachable stuff, including perspective.

We will be exploring imaginative and experimental ways to draw and paint from landscape, still life and the imagination.
You will be encouraged to find your own personal language through the medium of paint, with reference to various contemporary artists. We often start off the term with timed, warm up, drawing exercises, using both the left and the
right hand, to keep things fresh. New students wanting to join the group will be invited in to visit us. Beginners don’t have to buy materials until they are sure they want to continue, as the tutor always has paints, charcoal etc for students to borrow. Paper is available for sale at the art centre. The group is made up of figurative and abstract artists. We refer to other contemporary artists for inspiration, depending on what’s showing in the local and national collections. This can often
prompt an interesting discussion amongst the group as nobody has to agree with the tutor!
